    Academics

  • The curriculum at Mannes breathes new life into traditional conservatory education, offering students rigorous training together with unique opportunities to grow as artists through cross-disciplinary collaboration, entrepreneurial thinking, and social engagement.

  • Explore interests outside of your core areas of study across all of The New School's schools and colleges. Our more than 50 minors enable you to expand your studies and become a more dynamic and multifaceted artist.

  • Undergraduate students at Mannes School of Music can combine their BM degree with the MA in Arts Management and Entrepreneurship and graduate with both degrees in five years. The master’s program enables you to deepen your abilities as a performer while gaining knowledge of and skills in business, leadership, and entrepreneurship.

  • Performance & Learning Opportunities

Mannes students engage in unique performance experiences, collaborating with students across The New School and partner organizations like the International Contemporary Ensemble and the Martha Graham Dance Company.

Take the Stage in New York City.

Perform at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, apprentice with members of the Orchestra of St. Luke's, join the Martha Graham Dance Company in riveting productions, and take the stage with The Mannes Opera. Experience firsthand what it's like to be a working musician in one of the most vibrant music scenes in the world.

    Experiment. Collaborate. Perform.

Don't just learn how to play your instrument; learn how to perform. Develop your artistry alongside peers from the College of Performing Arts, Parsons, and across The New School by creating multidisciplinary projects with theater directors, designers, and media students. Record an album with jazz students. Make new work with actors, writers, and directors. You'll never run out of opportunities to grow and showcase your talent in new and original ways.

    Chart Your Own Course.

Today's artists are makers and doers. Performers are composers, composers are improvisers, musicians are changemakers. At Mannes, you can develop your artistry through a curriculum that goes far beyond that of the traditional conservatory. In courses like The Stone Workshops, Improv Artists Lab, and The Digital Revolution, you'll have the opportunity to play alongside boundary-breaking artists and award-winning faculty members. Take courses that will challenge you to make music in new and inspired ways.

  • Mannes Prep welcomes students ages 4 through 18 (pre-K through high school), from beginners to advanced students aspiring to professional careers. Students learn from a unique curriculum tailored to their age and skill level. Under the direction of a dedicated faculty, students can develop their skills and cultivate their musical growth.

  • The ESL + Music program helps students develop their English language skills before they begin their degree at Mannes. Students study music with members of the Mannes faculty while improving their English language skills in order to qualify for degree programs.
