    Profile

Praised by the New York Times for her “inventive,” “graceful,” ”showpiece” works and honored with a 2013 Drama Desk Awards nomination for Outstanding Music in a Play, Ana Milosavljevic is a New York City-based composer, performing artist, collaborator, producer, educator, and multi-instrumentalist on violin, Viper electric violin, and piano. Acclaimed as “exquisite” (TheaterMania.com) and “an imaginative artist willing to think big” (The Strad), Ana is a Serbian native and New York City-based composer, whose music for film, theater, dance, orchestra, and instrumental and vocal ensembles and soloists has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide. Her music has been premiered at Carnegie Hall, Le Poisson Rouge, the Tribeca New Music Festival, the National Opera Center, New York Fashion Week for Marinia, and Off-Broadway, and featured in choreography by Takehiro Ueyama (TAKE Dance) and Vladimir Conde Reche (the University of New Mexico), as well as in performances by ArcDanz (Mexico) and Juilliard Dance. Ana also composes music for film -- including the score for Luci in the Sky, directed by Yuko Takebe -- and fosters numerous multimedia collaborations.

Ana has been recognized with the MacDowell Colony Fellowship and the multiple ASCAP PLUS Awards, as well as awards and grants from Artists International Presentations, New York Women Composers, the Alice M. Ditson Fund of Columbia University, the Soros Fund, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, and the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ana has performed solo recitals at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Belgrade Philharmonic Hall, Kolarac Concert Hall, the TimesCenter, Le Poisson Rouge, the Cornelia Street Café, and The Stone, and has appeared at major festivals including the BAM Next Wave Festival, the Tribeca New Music Festival, Spoleto in Italy, Aspen, the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, MATA Festival, the 2008 Beijing International Congress on Women in Music, the American Festival of Microtonal Music, Music With a View @ The Flea, ASCAP’s Thru the Walls showcase series, and Composers Collaborative’s Serial Underground. She has also performed with Thomas Dolby,  Antony and the Johnsons, and Joy Askew, and has appeared in the Art for Animals concert featuring headliner Laurie Anderson.

Ana has collaborated with John King, former co-director of the music committee for the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, to create new repertoire for violin, Viper, viola, and interactive electronics. Her other creative collaborations also included working with the Silk Road Ensemble’s percussionist, Shane Shanahan, to develop repertoire for violin, Viper, and various percussion instruments, and a project with Tokyo-based Taiko group AUN & HIDE, featuring former long-time members of the Japanese Taiko groups Ondekoza and Kodo.

Ana attended the School for Musically Gifted Children in Cuprija, completed her bachelor's degree at Novi Sad University’s Academy of Arts, and received her master's degree and professional studies diploma at Mannes College The New School for Music.
