  • This page outlines requirements for the degree in Screen Studies (BA Screen Studies). Students can also focus on this subject when pursuing the major in Liberal Arts (BA, Liberal Arts) which allows them to design aspects of their curriculum. 

    Requirements for the BA in Screen Studies

    Only specific courses satisfy the major requirements, including electives. Courses should be chosen carefully, in consultation with the Departmental Faculty Advisor and your Student Success advisor.

    Introductory courses:

    • LCST 2122 Introduction to Screen Studies (3-4 credits)
    • Choose one:  
      • LCST 2451/2450 OR ULEC 2028/2029 Introduction to Media Studies (3-4 credits)
      • LCST 2121/2120 OR ULEC 2026/2027 Introduction to Cultural Studies (3–4 credits)

    Other required courses:

    • LCST electives totaling 27-36 credits, chosen in consultation with the Departmental Faculty Advisor. At least one must be 4000 level or higher, at least one must be in Media Studies and one must be in Cultural Studies.

    Senior Capstone:

    • Choose one in consultation with your Departmental Faculty Advisor (3-4 credits):
      • LCST 4900 Senior Seminar (spring term only)
      • LCST 4990 Senior Work (independent study)
      • A second 4000-level LCST course (or graduate course, with approval)

    Total Credits: 36-48
