    Kia Gregory

    Profile

Kia Gregory is a journalist drawn to examining how people and how their communities are affected by public policy, with a particular focus on racial justice and liberation.

My service at The New School is currently in protest against the Board of Trustees. The Board has ignored the overwhelming will of 85% of faculty, staff, and students across the university to divest from companies implicated in war crimes, genocide, and violations of international human rights law, including those perpetrated by Israel against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

Rather than respecting our collective will or making morally just decisions in the face of these unconscionable atrocities, the Board has dismissed its moral responsibility, betraying my, for one, values and commitment to social justice.

In solidarity with global citizens—including those facing unspeakable horrors in the Congo and Sudan, and African Americans who continue to battle systemic state violence—my words here stand as a testament to our interconnectedness and shared stand for justice. I, like many, also know that our liberation is inextricably tied.

As a commitment to what I know is right and just, my service will remain in protest until the Board votes to divest and takes genuine steps towards upholding the university’s mission of social justice.
