GIFTS ARE TOOLS: TEACHING IN THE CREATIVE DISCIPLINES
A workshop for faculty led by faculty member Cara Hagan
Friday, September 29, 12:30 - 3:30 pm
[REGISTER HERE]
In this workshop, participants will be led through a series of creative activities meant to identify strengths in teaching and facilitation for the purpose of sharing those strengths among the group of fellow pedagogues in attendance. As a collaborative experience that mirrors the curricular aims of the programs within the College of Performing Arts, participants will collectively identify where the various approaches and methodologies illuminated during the workshop may be applicable across their teaching, and brainstorm ways to incorporate those tools into their unique teaching practices. As a foundation of this experience, participants will read and discuss pedagogic philosophy by bell hooks, Paulo Freire, John Dewey, Duchess Harris, Lindsay Masland, and more. Participants will emerge from the workshop with a deeper understanding of what they bring to the classroom and why it is important, new tools to continue deepening their teaching practice, and a new draft of a one-page teaching philosophy.
