    Profile

Emmanuel Cohen is the director of Parsons Paris’ First-Year Curriculum (Integrative Studio and Seminar) and serves as the coordinator between the First-Year Curriculum and the BBA Strategic Design and Management program.

Cohen has a Ph.D. in Performance Studies (Arts du spectacle) from the Université de Picardie – Jules Verne. His dissertation addresses the question of the rejection of drama in modernist theaters, and more precisely within the historical Avant-Gardes in Paris, from the 1910s to the 1930s (Dada, Gertrude Stein and Surrealism). He holds a M.A. in Littérature, Arts et Pensées contemporaines from the Université Paris 7 – Denis Diderot, in exchange with the University of Pennsylvania (2007-2009).

As a photographer, Cohen collaborated with the project Étant Donnée by the Collectif Simple Appareil and the writer Cécile Portier. As a researcher, Emmanuel has published articles on Stein, Dada and Surrealism in several journals and co-organized an international colloquium on theater and its relation to thinking and philosophy, « Le Théâtre pense, certes. Mais quoi ? Comment ? Et où ? », with Christophe Bident and Laure Couillaud at the Maison de la Culture d’Amiens and the Université Paris Ouest – Nanterre La Défense in September 2014. Emmanuel has taught French at UPenn, English at the Institut des Langues Orientales in Paris, and Writing at Université Paris Est – Créteil, and now the French Grad Reading seminar at Parsons Paris.
