We encourage New School graduates of various professional experience levels and backgrounds to sign up for Meet a Mentor Office Hours with students and recent alumni. These 45- to 60-minute mentor sessions can cover career advice, résumé or portfolio review, interviewing skills, networking, and life after graduation. After participating in an initial session coordinated by the Office of Alumni Engagement, mentors and mentees can decide whether they’d like to meet again independently in the future. Mentors may also meet one-on-one or in small groups with students, recent graduates, and alumni in need of career advice. To opt in as a mentor, you can register on The New School Network and indicate how you’d like to help in your profile details.

The Office of Alumni Engagement developed The New School Network as a virtual forum for our Alumni Community Groups. These newly launched groups offer alumni opportunities to get involved in event planning, volunteerism, and philanthropic initiatives designed to foster pride, build a sense of belonging, and support New School students. We look forward to promoting connections between New School graduates, students, and the university across schools, shared identities, affinities, and geographic locations.

Leadership Committees
We are enthusiastically seeking dedicated and passionate alumni leaders who will shape the direction of events and programming for specific Alumni Community Groups, including the Black Alumni, Latinx Alumni, and LGBTQIA+ Alumni Community Groups. Leaders will plan regular meetups, volunteer projects in local or shared-interest communities, and other fun social initiatives. You'll also help the Alumni Engagement Office bolster a sense of belonging and pride among alumni.

Each leadership committee will be chaired by three to six alumni volunteers and steered by a chair and co-chair. Leaders will elect a chair or co-chairs to serve as the executive leader for the group.

Leadership responsibilities include:
- Planning and assisting with two to three events or initiatives annually
- Meeting with leadership committee members one to three times annually
- Activating communications in the New School Network, social media, and other outlets
- Attending community events

To be eligible for a leadership position, volunteers must:
- Be degree-conferred alumni of The New School
- Be willing and able to work positively and collaboratively with members of the alumni community, the Alumni Advisory Council, the Office of Development and Alumni Engagement, and faculty and staff of The New School
- Preferably have volunteer experience with nonprofit programs, employee or membership programs, or New School engagement activities (for example, alumni mentorship)

Once accepted as part of a Leadership Committee, alumni will serve as community leaders for a term of two years, with a two-term consecutive limit. Nominations will be reviewed by Alumni Engagement staff and the Alumni Advisory Council.

MadeNEW Market is located in The New School Network, a digital hub where alumni, students, faculty, and staff gather virtually to share news, mentor students, seek jobs, shop MadeNEW Market, and more. Through MadeNEW Market we showcase the range of talent and creativity in our alumni community and offer a place for consumers to find unique high-quality products and services. Join the network to shop or to post your own business. Select businesses will be featured in social media posts and other communications all year long!

The Alumni Engagement Office identifies alumni experts in the field to speak at classes, events, and industry panels. If you are willing to be considered to present or perform at an upcoming live or virtual event, indicate your interest in your New School Network profile and also email [email protected].

We also work closely with our colleagues in Career Services to provide opportunities for industry experts who want to help foster student career pathways. These volunteers speak on career panels or workshops, recruit at New School career fairs, and list jobs and internships for students and alumni in Hire New and the New School Network.

Annual Fund for Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice
The New School has just announced a new Annual Fund designation in support of the work of our Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice. Gifts to this fund support civic leadership training, launch new public programs and conferences, institute community volunteer and service days, provide resources for heritage month celebrations and events, and create new financial aid and scholarship opportunities, all to help ensure equitable access to the university.
