Overview
The Migration Studies minor is offered through the Schools of Public Engagement.
The Migration Studies minor provides students with a foundational interdisciplinary understanding of migration and mobility and the economic, political, social, spatial, material, environmental, and institutional conditions that shape the movement of people, things, and ideas across borders. This minor is designed to provide students with maximum flexibility to complement academic paths in the humanities, social sciences, design, media studies, writing, and the arts.
The Migration Studies minor is supported by the Zolberg Institute on Migration and Mobility. The Zolberg Institute will provide a space for engagement beyond the classroom, and students who declare this minor will be considered Zolberg fellows, with the privilege of participating in the podcast Tempest Tossed, the Brown Bag series, and other initiatives.
Curriculum
This minor requires successful completion of 18 credits. Course availability may vary from semester to semester. Some courses may be in development and offered at a later time. Students seeking to pursue alternative coursework to fulfill the minor should consult with their advisors.

Learning Outcomes
A student who has completed this minor should be able to:
- Demonstrate theoretical understanding of the economic, social, environmental, and political causes of various forms of migration
- Distinguish between different forms of migration and the various concepts, practices, and research methods that emerge from different disciplines, interests, ideologies, and traditions
- Employ different methodologies and conceptualize migration and mobility from everyday practices to regional systems to global networks and flows
- Understand the ethics and responsibility of conducting research on and working directly with migrant and refugee populations
- Apply critical analysis to primary sources such as policy reports, agency reports, media, interviews, observations, literary texts, photographs, films, and data sets
- Recognize debates around migration and mobility as sites of engagement and contestation over governance, rights, citizenship, sovereignty, borders, and social justice
