Advising and Registration

Academic advising begins with the selection of classes for your first semester and continues throughout your time at The New School. Academic advisors are here to help you define your goals, identify learning opportunities aligned with your academic interests, assist you with understanding university policies and requirements, and much more! Your academic advisor will be assigned to you on the basis of your last name, year, program of study, or major.
Fall 2024 registration for new students begins in early June 2024 for most programs. You will receive an email with more information and registration instructions specific to your program.
Transfer Credit and Advanced Standing
The New School will evaluate examination credit and work completed at accredited universities to be applied toward our undergraduate degree programs. Scores for Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, A Level, and other leaving exams can be reviewed for potential transfer credit upon receipt of official transcripts. - College of Performing Arts
  
  Fall 2024 registration for new students begins in June 2024. You will receive information at your New School email address about your advisor and how to set up your appointment. Your advisor will give you registration information during this time.
  Students at Mannes and the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music will receive further communications about placement tests at their New School email addresses.
- Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts
  
  All Lang students are assigned a team of advisors, including a faculty advisor and academic advisor. Your faculty advisor is a full-time professor who provides academic mentorship and guidance during your undergraduate education. Your academic advisor provides information to help you navigate university systems and campus support services.

- The New School for Social Research
  
  Fall 2024 registration for new students is currently open.
  Registration for new students happens in consultation with your departmental student advisor. Please contact your advisor as soon as you can, through your New School email account, to discuss your plans for your first semester. You will not be allowed to register for classes until you have talked with your advisor.
  Note that some departmental advisors may be out of the office intermittently during the winter break. Staff from the NSSR’s Office of Academic Affairs are also available at [email protected] to help assist students with registration over the summer.

  Bachelor's Program for Adults and Transfer Students
  Fall 2024 registration begins on June 3, 2024. You will receive an email at your New School account providing detailed instructions for advising and registration. We invite you to review the current course offerings and assemble a preliminary list of courses in preparation for your advising appointment.
  School of Media Studies
  Registration for new students for fall 2024 begins on June 3, 2024, and will continue through the beginning of the semester. We will send an email to your New School account with more information on registration.
  Milano School
  Fall 2024 registration begins June 3, 2024. Advising and registration information will be emailed to MS and certificate students who have reserved their places. Be sure to check your New School email account for this information.
  Julien J. Studley Graduate Programs in International Affairs
  Fall 2024 registration begins June 3, 2024. Before you can register for classes, you'll need to speak with an advisor. You will receive an email sent to your New School email account with registration information, including instructions for contacting an advisor.
