    Luis Galli

    Profile

    Professor Galli began teaching at The New School in 2002. He has taught all levels of Spanish and created unique and advanced courses combined with Drama such as: Theater in Spanish, Hispanic Theater Workshop, Cita en Español, Amores de Telenovela, Spanish for Acting etc. He has served as Coordinator of Spanish, Coordinator of Drama and movement and currently as Coordinator of Languages Tutoring. He graduated from Law and Political Sciences at Universidad de Lima and got sponsored by the British Council to pursue his MA in Environmental Law. Professor Galli has worked in law firms in Peru and at the United Nations in Switzerland before changing careers in 2001. His second MA was in Advertising and Marketing while working for the U.N  In 2001, Luis came to NY graduating from the M.F.A. program Actor’s Studio in 2004 and has worked in 40 plays including Broadway, off & off-off Broadway and 22 films (ImdB), His last film is Because of You, currently in post-production although he is probably mostly remembered for dancing with Jennifer Lopez (after James Lipton auditioned him for the part) in Inside the Actor's Studio 2004. Internationally. Prof. Galli has directed for stage and acted, taught acting workshops, co-produced and cast for feature films & TV series (currently airing in TV) such as Stranger at the Funeral in 2021 getting the Award of Excellence at the Accolade Global Film Competition,California and Best leading actor at the NYC Independent film Festival 2022 for the same role. Luis received the Latin ACE 2018 award for best character actor in the EWTN US-PERU co production Saint Rose of Lima for his role of scientist Juan del Castillo. His first award was the 2015 HOLA special citation for his work in two different timelines (18th& 21st century) characters Earl Aliaga/Rodrigo Madrid Jet-setter in US-Peru co-production La Amante del Libertador/Teresa the Liberator's lover presented in a sold out screening at the NSU Swayduck Auditorium 2015.

    During summers 2007-2009 Prof. Galli was invited to teach drama workshops in Europe at the Warsaw Film Institute etc. As language Professor he participates in Conferences presenting essay and papers on his favorite research fields. Luis as an actor and producer attended International film festivals. He wrote his first novel titled Mujer Desaparecida( Vanished Worman) a thriller set in South America and published in Spanish by La Travesia, Publishing house 2019 presented multiple times in NYC, Miami, N.J. and Lima and sold out internationally in Peru (Lima, Cuzco, Arequipa), Ecuador (Cuenca), Chile (Santiago), Mexico (CDMX), Spain (Madrid), U.S.A. (New York City). His last book is an ecological children's story published in 2023 El Bosque de Cucho also published in English as Cucho's Forest  in 2024 and presented by award winning author Prof. Caron Levis from the Creative writing Dpt at NSU. The story has been presented by Prof. Galli worldwide including primary schools and children's health care center.

                                2018

                                 Luis also collaborated with an essay about stand up comedy entitled: 

                                “Humor and Social Change in Peru: The Stand-up Comedy a practioner's approach ,Book: Humor a Global approach (Submitted to Editor, Raul Rubio in preparation for submission to press for consideration).

                               2019

                               Luis wrote his first novel, a love triangle thriller set in Lima, Peru during the terrorist time. "Mujer Desaparecida" (Vanished woman") published in January 2019 by La Travesia publishing house.

                              2021

                             Luis collaborated with Prof. Rubio and NSU colleagues in the textbook " Nubes de la vida: Antologia de Creación Literaria" currently submitted in 2025 to editor. Luis's contribution is "El niño y el mito" and the theater play "Preciosa". 

                               2023

                              Luis and his sister Maria Angela co-authored El Bosque de Cucho, published by Centro de Contenido y Desarrollo.

                              2024

                             Luis and his sister Maria Angela co-authored Cuchos' Forest, the english version of El Bosque de Cucho published by Centro de Contenido y Desarrollo.

                             2025

                             Luis used his Sabbatical leave in year 2023-24 to write 7 chapters our of 10 of his new fiction work "Como matar un Angel" about bullying.

    Awards And Honors

    Luis received the award of excellence for his acting at the Accolade Global Film Competition in 2021 in California for the film A Stranger at the Funeral. and best actor for same role at the NY Independent Film Festival in 2022

    Luis got the 2018 Latin ACE Award for Best Character Actor in the period TV series Saint Rose of Lima. This TV series is a co-production between EWTN USA and Azul Corporacion Peru.

    Prof. Galli was honored with the TUMI AWARD in 2017 in Hartford, CT representing the Peruvian community for the state of New York.

    The NY Latino community honored Luis with a special citation giving him the HOLA award for the movie "Teresa, The libertador's Fiance"/ "La Amante del Libertador' 2015, N.Y.C., U.S.A. This movie was also screened at New School Alvin Johnson/J.M. Kaplan Auditorium in 2015. Other Honorees the same year were Benicio del Toro and Andy Garcia.

    On the Academic side, Luis got two nominations for: Teaching Excellence at The New School, 2008 and 2010, N.Y.C., U.S.A.
